History, Purpose & Aims

St. Xavier’s English School is a recognized Co-educational institution run by the Jamshedpur Diocesan Corporation. It is administered by the sisters of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, Bangalore. It was founded on 21st July 1993 by Fr. Cyril Fernandes and caters to all sections of Society irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. It is non-aided minority Institution. The school is covered under Section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational InstitutionsAct,2004.Affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination(CISCE) New Delhi, the school prepares its students for the ICSE Examination at
class X level and ISC Examination at class XII level. The School solely depends on the monthly fees for its maintenance and day to day expenses.

As a Catholic School, St. Xavier’s School draws its inspiration and guidance from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. As such, due importance is given to the faith formation of the Catholic students through Religion classes. Moral Values are imparted to other students through Value Education.

The school’s lofty ideals and a comprehensive education enables the students to become a well balanced person with a strong patriotic feeling, a profound social, cultural awareness and a power of Global understanding.

Phylosophy of Life and Education

We believe that man is the image and likeness of God Himself. All persons have been endowed with unique gifts found within themselves. They are to be used for the service of all, assisting each of our students in the gradual unfolding of the potential to the maximum, is the task of St. Xavier’s educators. As a community of Educators, we believe that maximum unfolding can be real, only by becoming persons of loving service throughout our whole adult life.

St. Xavier’s English School believes in the development of our students in their ability to critically choose what is best .The process of learning is therefore of primary importance.

Learning “How to learn” and an appreciation for continued learning are imperatives of our times. respect for appreciation of personhood rests as the foundation of our educational mission.

As a Minority institution, St. Xavier’s English School is primarily meant to cater to the educational needs of the Christians. However, it is also open to students of other communities irrespective of caste, colour or creed. It maintains its Christian atmosphere, identity and character. Therefore, only Christian worship will be conducted in the school premises.

Curriculum

The medium of instruction is English. Hence the use of English in the school campus is as a rule compulsory.

The school includes classes from K.G to class XII .The curriculum of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi is followed. The students are prepared for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education(ICSE),and Indian School certificate (ISC)Examination. English is the medium of instructions. Sanskrit is taught as a third language(V-VIII) and Hindi is taught as a second language.

The curriculum embraces Moral Instruction. English literature and composition, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Computer Application, Social Science, Environmental Studies, Physical Education, Art and Crafts, G.K, S.U.P.W. & Yoga.

Rules and regulations of syllabus and assessment of students performance is done in accordance with the standard set by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.
